ATI radeon opensource driver with XRandr 1.2 support for Debian unstable
As Brice Goglin writes in his blog, he has uploaded xserver-xorg-video-ati with XRandr 1.2 support to experimental. This is version 6.7.191 of the driver and is built for Xorg 7.3 but unstable still has 7.2. Brice says, one could rebuild the driver for Xorg 7.2 just by downgrading the Build-Dep of the package to xserver-xorg-dev 1.3.0 (instead of 1.3.99).
I did that, and you can get the shiny package here, or directly here (direct link to the .deb).
Hope this deb will help someone, who does not want to build it himself.
hf, Evgeni
UPDATE:
I've just uploaded 6.7.192-1 to my server, grab it here: xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.7.192-1_i386.deb and have fun!

you just made me dist-upgrade to lenny (((^_^)
and your package works fine… not all that surprising though, I’m using an X31 ThinkPad, too.
thanks
It works on lenny too? Nice. It was built on sid, though.
However, the new driver brings some instability with OpenGL games for me :( And disables DRI, look at http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Xorg_RandR_1.2#Notes_for_X31_.2F_Radeon_7000_users
